| drand | A public randomness beacon run by independent organisations (the League of Entropy). |
| quicknet | The drand network with a 3-second period and signatures on G1. The one Cricket uses. |
| Round | One tick of the beacon. Round numbers count up from 1 at genesis, one every 3 seconds. |
| Beacon signature | The 48 bytes the network signs for a round. The random value is its hash. |
| BLS12-381 | A pairing-friendly elliptic curve. G1 and G2 are two of its groups. |
| Pairing | A function of two curve points whose results can be compared to check a signature. |
| Precompile | A function built into the chain, much cheaper than the same code in a contract (EIP-2537 for BLS12-381). |
| Hash to curve | A standard way (RFC 9380) to turn a message into a curve point. |
| Commitment | A fixed statement made before a result exists, here a list hash and a round. |
| Reveal | Posting the signature that decides a committed draw. |
| Seed | The value derived from the randomness and the list hash, from which winners are drawn. |
| Rejection sampling | Throwing away values that would favour some indexes, to keep every index equally likely. |
| prevrandao | The block field meant to carry randomness. It is the constant 1 on Robinhood Chain. |
